Mitie, the UK’s leading facilities management and professional services company, has signed up to the RE100 initiative, committing to use only renewable energy across all its sites. This makes it the first facilities management company to sign up to all three of The Climate Group’s initiatives EV100, EP100 and RE100, and only the eighth company in the world to make this commitment.

Mitie is working in partnership with the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and Highfield Qualifications, the licence awarding body, to provide online access to the training course which is required to become a licensed security guard. Previously candidates were required to attend on-site courses. However, with social distancing measures in place, an innovative training solution was required to meet the growing demand for licenced Security Officers to support the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mitie, the UK’s leading facilities management and professional services company, is supporting the British Coronavirus effort by providing cleaning, catering, portering, security and waste management services for the NHS Ysbyty Calon y Ddraig in Cardiff. The field hospital – Dragon’s Heart, as it is known in English – opened with a capacity of 300 patients on Sunday 12 April 2020 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. At full capacity it could accommodate up to 2,000 beds for patients, making it the UK’s second largest temporary hospital. We all hope this capacity is not realised; however, it is ready as a precaution against COVID-19.
Mitie Security is helping businesses mitigate against the spread of Coronavirus with the launch of a new suite of fever-screening solutions. The solutions, which have been developed by adapting existing thermal imaging technology, quickly and easily identify individuals with a fever that may be symptomatic of COVID-19. This fever-screening technology is able to detect human temperatures to within an accuracy of 0.3ºC, raising the alarm to monitoring teams should it identify an individual with a fever.

By joining the initiative, Mitie has committed to double its energy productivity –measured by the amount of energy used per pound of revenue generated – over the next 25 years*. However, based on current targets to improve its energy productivity, Mitie anticipates meeting this goal significantly sooner.
Mitie has expanded its service offering for BMW Group with a new five-year engineering and energy contract following a competitive tender. The UK’s leading facilities management provider has also secured a five-year extension of its cleaning and landscaping contract with the premium car manufacturer. This double contract win strengthens Mitie’s FM market-leading position in the automotive sector.
Mitie has secured a three-year contract to provide security services to the Home Office, commencing 1st April 2020. Both manned guarding and mobile patrol services will be carried out by Mitie, the UK’s leading provider of intelligence and technology-led security, at 27 sites across the UK ranging from Dover to Belfast. It is the latest Crown Commercial Services contract won by Mitie following its appointment to the government’s framework last year.
Mitie has launched its new industry-leading ‘Plan Zero’ commitment, pledging that it will reach net zero carbon emissions by 2025. Mitie is the first facilities management (FM) company to set such an ambitious net zero emissions target, 25 years ahead of the UK Government’s 2050 target.
