In 2022, we are continuing to focus on safety with our aspiration to create a ‘zero harm’ business. Fostering a caring culture is a key priority at Morgan. Our thinkSAFE initiative and specifically our shared thinkSAFE commitments form the foundation for this culture. Throughout this year we are rolling out our thinkSAFE commitments training to all of our people, alongside a specific leadership workshop outlining the mindset, skillset and toolset we require of our leaders to maintain momentum on our cultural journey. To support leaders with safety improvements, our Group Director, Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability Lori is sharing her top 5 safety tips: 1. Make time in your daily schedule to work on building trust by communicating with your team. Create a safety dialogue. 2. Encourage peer to peer feedback to help build confidence in your team in recognising safe acts and correcting unsafe acts. 3. Be visible. There is often a gap between work as done versus work as we imagine. 4. Get involved in incident management and do not underestimate the value of bringing a larger investigation team into the root cause analysis process. 5. Remember to verify the effectiveness of any corrective actions periodically and ensure these corrective actions are sustained. Our people drive our progress to make the world a more sustainable place. Our St. Marys, PA site has made great progress on their sustainability initiatives on-site; conserving energy and natural resources, reducing pollution and hazardous waste, reclaiming materials, and establishing an environmentally safe workplace. These projects have led to Morgan being recognised as a winner in the 2022 Manufacturing Leadership Awards for our outstanding achievement in Sustainability and the Circular Economy. Mike Koscho, Global Director of Operations, commented “This award is a great testament to the progress which we are making against our five environmental, social, and governance (ESG) improvement objectives and targets to improve our performance as a Group. We are pleased to recognised along with other forward-thinking sustainable peers.” Read the full press release to find out more: https://www.morganadvancedmaterials.com/en-gb/news-events/pr-feature-articles-morgan-issued/morgan-advanced-materials-recognised-as-manufacturing-leadership-awards-2022-winner/
We have a long way to go to reach our aspiration of zero harm to all of our people, but it's important to celebrate our wins along the way! In the spirit of positive recognition, here are a few of your top safety moments so far this year: - 4 years with no lost time accident at our Kempten site - thinkSAFE refresh training rolling out across our global sites; from Korea, to Mexico, and the UAE to Germany - Increasing the frequency of first aid training at our Thouarcé site, by investment in their own first aid dummy Thank you to all of our people for thinking safe in 2022!

Central to the Morgan leadership behaviours is always working safely & ethically, and everything we do in Morgan must have this ethos at the core. Our Ethics & Compliance Director, Steven, comments on what the Code means to him; "To me, working safely and ethically is about being honest, acting with integrity, and doing the right thing even when the right thing isn't so easy." We want our people to keep safety at the forefront, which is why it is great to see the calendar our Thermal team have developed. This will help our people at our sites stay focused on thinkSAFE, thinkGREEN and wellbeing activities. What a fantastic idea.
At Morgan, our approach to sustainability continues to evolve as we bring into scope more and more elements related to our operations, processes and products: We have identified 10 of our manufacturing locations that could be negatively impacted by rising sea levels and we are conducting climate scenario analysis modelling on these sites. We are introducing sustainable water projects at a number of our high-use manufacturing sites, to reduce water stress and demands. We have begun work with our key stakeholders and top tier suppliers to reduce indirect emissions created when we manufacture, as a preliminary step towards minimising product lifecycle impact Learn what else we're focused on. #Sustainbility #Environment
