Opencast is delighted to introduce head of security services Ros Grindrod. Ros Grindrod has joined Opencast to help the business and our clients comply with regulation, develop best practice in data security – and build in further protection from potential future online attacks. Ros shared: “I was impressed by Opencast’s mission and vision statements and their determination to follow a social impact agenda – their work towards B Corp status was proof that they were practising what they preached." Since joining Opencast this autumn, Ros has contributed towards our B Corp application, and co-ordinated online security workshops for teenagers as part of an EmPower Cyber event.

Opencast is delighted to welcome new government relations director Henry Rex. Henry’s appointment will strengthen and widen Opencast’s working relationships with government departments. Henry has joined Opencast from global tech giant Microsoft, where he was central government industry advisor. Henry shared: “My new role at Opencast is to build out our reputations and relationships all across government, ensuring more government departments understand our capabilities and our narrative. We already have a great reputation within the departments we work with … but there is so much more we could do with other departments”.
Opencast has appointed a new head of social impact, reaffirming our commitment to being a purpose-driven business. 🌍 Stef Monaco’s appointment into the newly created role came as we submitted our application for B Corp status – an accreditation designed to measure a company’s social and environmental impact. Stef shared: “I’m delighted to have taken up my new role to continue to support Opencast’s commitment to drive positive impact for people and planet.. There are all sorts of reasons why social impact is important to Opencast.. it’s about living out our purpose, mission and vision which are all about doing the right thing – for our clients, their users, our team and the wider community.”
Opencast was named as a double winner at the 2023 Dynamites Awards 🏆 The Dynamo North East awards showcase the North East region’s talent and spotlight its best businesses. Opencast won both the 'growth explosion' and 'equalities diversity and inclusion' awards. In winning the 2023 growth award, Opencast has become the first business to be honoured in the Dynamites category in two consecutive years. We were also a finalist in 'sustainability in tech'. Opencast chief executive Tom Lawson said: "I am immensely proud of the whole Opencast team for this double win. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists at this year’s Dynamites. We will always be proud of our North East heritage – it is a privilege to be part of a community that includes such brilliant organisations and individuals."
Diwali celebrations at Opencast 🪔✨ Diwali is a global celebration of victory of light over darkness, celebrated as a festival of wealth and prosperity. Our people came together and celebrated Diwali with activities which included virtual bingo and quizzes hosted by Vijay Kumar Parri, and a celebration event at our Newcastle HQ. The celebration opened with James Hodgson lighting the diya, Manoj Sawant led a Dhol Tasha group with music and drumming and Charul Tripathi showed us some moves in a Dandiya dancing workshop. Our people had their hands decorated with beautiful henna designs from Noopur Rajput and enjoyed plenty of delicious sweets and savouries from Punjab Caterers. Huge thanks to Anoop Tripathi, Allan Fernandes, Manoj Sawant, Vijay Kumar Parri, Shipra, Charul Tripathi, Twinkle Lahariya and all of our people who contributed to Opencast’s Diwali celebrations.
