BLUE MONDAY Blue Monday 2026 falls on January 19, which is often referred to as the most depressing day of the year, but it doesn't have to be. Significance of Blue Monday: Blue Monday is observed on the third Monday of January. The concept was popularised in 2005 by a formula to calculate the most depressing day of the year based on various factors including weather conditions, debt levels, time since Christmas and failed New Years resolutions. The day serves as a reminder to check in on mental health and promote self care, as many people experience a dip in mood and motivation after the holiday season. Combat the blues on Blue Monday, consider the following strategies: - Reframe the day: Instead of viewing Blue Monday as a trap, use it as an opportunity to recalibrate and set achievable goals for the week. - Move Your Body: Physical activity can release endorphins and improve mood. Even a short walk can be beneficial. - Connect with Others: Human connection is a powerful mood buster. Reach out to friends and family for a chat or join a community group. - Get Fresh Air: Even a short trip outside can help regulate your internal clock and improve mood. - Disconnect from Devices: Taking regular breaks from screens can help clear your mind and reconnect with yourself. - Plan Social Activities: Human connection is essential. Whether it's a quick message or a coffee catch-up, staying connected can prevent feelings of isolation.
