November is Men's Health Awareness Month! Men's health is often overlooked, mainly by men themselves! This leads to men experiencing avoidable outcomes, like those listed below. Suicide is the leading cause of death in men under 50. Men in the UK spend a fifth of their lives in poor health and die 4 years earlier than women. Many of the reasons for this are preventable!

Concerned about an adult? Noticing is not nosiness. If you are concerned about an adult, report it. Adults can be at risk of different kinds of abuse and it can happen anywhere. This could be an adult neglecting themselves, or when someone else treats them in a way that harms or hurts them. It can happen once or on multiple occasions. People who abuse are not always strangers, they can also be partners, relatives, a friend, neighbour or carer. “We help our neighbour out but now I’m worried. She’s not been the same since her son moved in and his friends are coming and going. She suddenly doesn’t want us coming around anymore.” Adult safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Noticing is not nosiness, if you are worried about an adult, like the examples below, here’s what you can do: 1. Talk to them to find out what is happening, if it is safe to do so. 2. If you are still concerned, or it is not safe to talk to them, contact social services, they will ask about the persons care and support needs and situation. 3. If an adult is not in immediate danger but you need Police help, contact 101. 4. If you are alarmed that an adult is in immediate danger, call the emergency services on 999. For further information and advice, also available in different languages, visit www.kmsab.org.uk/report-abuse
World Diabetes Day - 14th November Diabetes can impact people across all life stages, including childhood, the reproductive years, working age and older adulthood. The theme of this year’s WHO World Diabetes Day, "Diabetes across life stages,” recognises that every person living with diabetes should have access to integrated care, supportive environments and policies that promote health, dignity and self-management. This campaign emphasizes the importance of a life-course approach to diabetes prevention, management and overall well-being. Our key messages include: 1. Diabetes can affect people at every stage of life. 2. From childhood to older age, diabetes prevention and care efforts must be integrated across life stages; and 3. Supporting well-being and self-care empowers people with diabetes at every age. World Diabetes Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness about diabetes spreading knowledge and experiences and creating lasting change for all affected by diabetes.
