This has also made it possible for us to obtain Top Employer Europe accreditation. The Top Employers Institute certification process involves an in-depth analysis of people management practices and their impact on the organisation as a whole (strategy and results), as well as on the commitment, attraction, and development of talent. Its audit, validated by a global committee of experts, includes areas such as people strategy, work environment, recruitment and selection processes, learning, well-being or diversity and inclusion, among others. The certifications have been achieved by fulfilling the requirements of each country independently. We are the only company in the energy sector to achieve this certification! Iberdrola is one of the four Ibex-35 companies -the only one in the energy sector- and one of the two energy companies in the world to be certified by the European Top Employers Institute. We are one of the two utilities with the highest number of certified countries internationally.
ScottishPower has won two offshore wind contracts. The contracts for the East Anglia TWO and THREE will deliver more than 1,000MW of clean, green electricity – enough to power the equivalent of more than one million homes. Keith Anderson, ScottishPower CEO said: “Offshore wind is back on track after last year’s misstep which is great news for consumers. The only solution to weaning the UK off volatile fossil fuels which are the root cause of increasing bills is more clean, green energy. “This auction’s success shows this tried and tested investment mechanism, replicated globally, delivers exactly the scale of action needed, with billions of pounds to be pumped into the British economy replacing aging, polluting infrastructure. “Now the Government and GB Energy should focus efforts on supporting new green technologies to unleash their potential, replicate offshore wind’s success and deliver on their ambition of making Britain a clean energy global superpower.” Charlie Jordan, CEO of ScottishPower Renewables, congratulated the team. "A huge thanks and congratulations to everyone across the business for all their hard work on the auction, and for helping deliver an outstanding result. "The outturn of this auction represents a major result for SPR, with our advocacy efforts helping to secure an increased pot size and budget from Government. It's also a very significant outcome from both a ScottishPower and Iberdrola Group perspective.”

Iberdrola has signed an agreement to acquire 88% of Electricity North West (ENW) in the UK for an equity value of £2.1 billion. With the completion of the deal, the company becomes the second largest electricity networks operator in the UK. The UK becomes Iberdrola’s leading market by regulated asset base, which is valued at approximately €14 billion. ENW is located between the two existing ScottishPower networks license areas, in central and southern Scotland and Merseyside and North Wales. ENW distributes electricity to almost 5 million people in the Northwest of England, in locations such as Manchester, Lancaster and Barrow, and has approximately 60,000 km of electricity distribution networks. The acquisition accelerates Iberdrola's commitment to grow its electricity networks business. Iberdrola will now distribute electricity to around 12 million people in the UK, across a network which will span more than 170,000 kilometres. In addition, Iberdrola will employ more than 8,500 people in the country. Currently, Iberdrola operates more than 111,400 km of installed power lines in the country, with 40 onshore wind farms and two offshore wind farms in operation. The total capacity of renewables in operation in the UK exceeds 3,000 MW, enough to power the equivalent of more than 2 million homes, free of emissions. As part of its growth plans, the company is building the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm, the second largest in the world, with a total capacity of 1,400 MW.

Our Development MD, Gillian Noble, will be joining the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Onshore Wind Taskforce. Speaking about her appointment, she said: “As an established, proven and critical part of the UK energy mix, onshore wind offers a huge opportunity to increase UK energy security. I’m delighted to be joining the taskforce to support the development of a roadmap to get us there. “Given ScottishPower Renewables’ leading role in the sector, I know that by collaborating across industry to deploy more onshore wind, we’ll not only generate more clean, green electricity, but will also be able to share more community benefit funding to support local ambitions, unlock more environmental and ecology investment, and create more jobs and supply chain opportunities across the country. And we’re ready, willing and able to work together to do just that.”

The move is a direct response to customer feedback calling for a simpler way to engage in the distribution flexibility services market.
The surge in DIY garden projects led to a 24% increase in reported incidents across the UK – rising from 126 incidents from January to June 2019 to 161 incidents in the same period this year. The number of domestic incidents rose as customers dug up trees, hammered in fences and painted over electricity service has positions.
