This year will be bursting with tech innovations, potential IPOs and cool companies hiring like crazy. The UK job market is pretty strong, the unemployment rate is steady at a near 11-year low of 4.9% and with average weekly earnings growing by 2.3%, it seems like 2017 could be a pretty exciting year (let’s not talk about Brexit). So, this may just be the perfect time for you to find a job you love. Take a look at a few of the awesome companies looking to make 2017 their biggest year yet!
  1. Dropbox
In 2016, Dropbox added scanning capability to its iOS app and introduced Dropbox Paper for online document collaboration, plus it has recently allowed paying mobile users to designate entire folders for offline access. This is a clear sign to us that Dropbox is moving fast and in the right direction. With growing reports that Dropbox will IPO in 2017, this is one we’ll be watching closely and seeing how employees react. From software engineer to enterprise account executive, Dropbox is also staffing up. Now may be the time to apply.
  1.  Uber
Uber has changed the way people travel. Getting across any city is now far cheaper and more accessible than ever before. However, it is not resting on its laurels. Uber plan to launch its driverless cars over the next few years. These are already being trialled in San Francisco, with plans to have a crack at Arizona in 2017. Undoubtedly, there are a still a few kinks to iron out, however 2017 will see Uber dedicate a huge amount of resources to this. If you are interested in joining this game-changing team here in the UK, Uber is hiring a Marketing Strategy Lead as well as a Partner Engagement Lead.
  1.  Houzz
You may not have heard of this impressive platform yet, but rest assured in 2017 you will. Houzz is one of the first companies that has successfully married technology with property design to create an exceptionally user friendly and helpful site. Only five years old and already worth more than £1.3 billion, it only recently launched in the UK, but has already made great advances. If you are passionate about property then Houzz currently has some exciting opportunities including a French speaking account executive. Mais, oui.
  1. ThoughtWorks
Software development company, ThoughtWorks, are awesome because they genuinely care. It is the type of company that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Its mission is to “better humanity” and this really does seem to be carried through its entire business, especially when looking at its Glassdoor reviews. We are looking forward to seeing what these guys will be doing in 2017, and, if anyone is interested in working for this inspirational organisation, keep an eye out for new UK job openings here.
  1. GlaxoSmithKline
GlaxoSmithKline is a medical research giant that essentially help save lives by developing innovative pharmaceutical medicines. At the end of last year it was busy working on new drugs – one of which could well help prevent HIV, whilst the other should help relieve some of the symptoms of asthma. 2017 should see these drugs go into trial stage and, hopefully, help change the lives of people around the world. GlaxoSmithKline don’t just hire medical professionals, so if you want to help change lives, take a look at its job vacancies here.
  1. Cloudreach
Global cloud computing specialists, Cloudreach, is not only dedicated to helping a number of fantastic charities including Urban Rising and Byte Night, but last year it achieved Gold level of partnership with Microsoft as well as Premier partnership with AWS in both the US and Europe independently. It also partnered with Apttus, to offer a unique end-to-end customer offering. Expect to see the same level of innovation from Cloudreach in 2017, and, if you would like to get involved, it is hiring for a Software Developer. We reckon you would probably enjoy your job.
  1. Facebook
You may possibly have heard of this company. It is pretty well known, founded by some guy named Mark Zuckerberg? Facebook has already got some pretty ambitious projects in the works for 2017, continuing on from its general theme of world domination. It is opening a startup incubator in Paris that is set to be the largest of its kind in the world, and that has an outstanding £250 million behind it. Facebook is constantly hiring, so if you are interested – take a look at its job vacancies here.
  1. Slack
The team communication startup has been a Silicon Valley darling ever since it hit the tech scene, especially in discussions around diversity and inclusion. Last year it made hiring a diverse workforce a priority while quadrupling the headcount across the organisation. But 2017 promises to be the year of Slack. This year, Google Drive will automatically extend permissions on a file to members of a Slack channel where the file is shared. Forget the manual share—Slack will do it for you. You’ll also be able to view more detailed previews of a file’s contents, whether it’s a document or spreadsheet, right within Slack. And a new Google Drive Slack bot will now ping you about changes to a file. #Winning. If you were looking for an excuse to leave your current job for the hottest startup on the scene, Slack has given you plenty of reasons. Jobs are in demand, so polish your resume now.
  1. Vice Media
Having turned the notion that the youth are not interested in news on its head, Vice Media offer interesting, provoking, and humorous content whilst remaining true to its “stick it to the establishment” ideals. Originally launched as a punk magazine in 1994, it has done pretty well for an alternative publication. With 36 offices globally, and one of the most popular sources for original online video, it is pretty much one of the top leaders, innovators and curators in its field. According to PrivCo estimates, Vice’s valuation at IPO may be close to $5 billion. “The reason why Vice News is successful is because there was this sort of misconception that young people don’t care about news, they don’t care about international news—all of which as people realise now is completely untrue,” said Shane Smith, founder of Vice. Expect 2017 to see it continue to expand its brand with a return of its Emmy Award winning series in the Autumn.
