Pay Services Manager

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Pay Services Manager / NHS Payroll Manager to lead the day-to-day management of an outsourced payroll service within a busy NHS organisation.

This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring accurate, timely and compliant payroll delivery across the Trust.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead operational management of outsourced NHS payroll services
• Manage contract performance, KPIs and supplier relationships
• Act as main interface between Trust and payroll provider
• Resolve and escalate complex payroll queries
• Oversee ESR (Electronic Staff Record) processes and reporting
• Ensure compliance with Agenda for Change (AfC) and NHS pay rules
• Deliver performance reporting and service improvement activity
• Support payroll digitalisation and process improvement

About You

• Experience in NHS payroll, HR operations or pay services
• Strong knowledge of ESR and NHS pay structures (AfC)
• Experience managing outsourced services or contracts
• Strong stakeholder and problem-solving skills
• Ability to handle complex payroll issues and reporting

NHS experience is desirable but not essential

Working Pattern

• Hybrid working: 2 days in office, remainder remote
