      Developer Interview

      8 Mar 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Shanghai, Shanghai
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Accenture (Shanghai, Shanghai) in Aug 2019

      Interview

I got this interview by submitting my CV in one of the job affairs. Their Japan-based position attracted me. Their Careers Fair counter was the only one who was not willing to answer my question about the job straight away on that Fair day. Instead, they asked for my CV first before answering my questions. This made me very reluctant and annoyed that day. A few days later, I got a phone call asking about my background with confirmation for the on-site interview, and then I was requested to take some tests before the interview. These questions are mostly IQ related and MBTI personality-related questions. Around a week later, I took their on-site interview. A group of 5 people interviewed me on that day, where some of them did some recording, others asked me some questions. We started with some background questions, such as "Please Introduce yourself.", "Why would you come to Shanghai?". Then, I was asked some technical questions on Java and Internet. Their questions were not hard, but frankly speaking, I did not answer well. They ended the interview with, "Do you have any further questions"? I asked about their typical working style, and they said it is "995" style (12 hours a day, five days of working). Admittedly, I was unprepared because I was busy and did not have much time. Also, this is my first formal job interview (not including internship), so I was a little nervous at that time. As a result, my performance was not good at all. I was not expected to pass the interview anyway. On the other hand, I did not feel comfortable throughout the interview. In the background questions part, they crossed the line repeatedly and rudely in the interview by commenting on my background that was totally irrelevant to the job and the interview itself (such as implying I cannot afford to purchase a house in Shanghai and implying my study abroad experience is a waste of money), which I felt very crossed and distressed. Let alone the fact that they never introduced their company, considering this is my first face-to-face interview with them. Frankly, I was not performing well in the interview, but their response at the end of the interview was: "Do you know what you are coming here to do?". This was like saying, "Even if you don't do the job, we still have lots of people out there waiting to do the job.". By recalling the details, I am hundred per cent sure that was definitely not a stress test interview at all. The entire process really shows how they lack some basic respect towards their applicants. This is definitely one of the worst interviews that I ever had. In the end, not surprisingly, I did not get an offer, and there was no further progress updates or rejection letter after all. But even if I had performed well and had an offer, I would not have accepted it, given their hubristic attitude throughout the application process.
