I was contacted by a recruiter who explained that Acumen was looking to expand operations in the Philadelphia area. We first had a brief phone interview, where she gave me an overview of what Acumen did, what they are looking to do and why they were interested in me; it was basically a way for both of us to gauge interest. Following the initial phone interview, I had a phone interview with the director of the group I would be entering, where I learned some further details about what the company was doing and how I could fit into it. After he was satisfied that I was serious about continuing the process, we scheduled an on-site interview day. The interviews were primarily behavioral; everyone was very positive and very welcoming. They went over my resume, and they asked a few questions to determine whether I had the technical skills needed for the position. I was given a scenario and ten minutes to prepare a presentation on it. The scenario was very free-form, open ended and vague, which gave a lot of opportunity to be creative and to show my thought processes. Following the interview day, a background check was performed and I received an offer. Overall, everyone I met was kind and showed genuine interest in what they did as well as the company for which they worked. I didn't get a single indication that people were unsatisfied with their work or with their company, and the overall sense that I got was that people felt a great sense of ownership in what they do.
