      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at American Income Life (Minneapolis, MN) in Apr 2018

      Interview

FULL DISCLOSURE: I only went through a phone interview. I received a voicemail from a woman introducing herself and stating she was "from the human resources department" and that she'd like to have a brief phone interview for the manager-in-training position. She made no mention of the company she represented. This caught my attention, but I assumed she just made a mistake and forgot to mention it. I called back and left her a message saying that I would be available in the afternoon. When she called back a few hours later, we proceeded to have a seemingly normal phone interview. She told me what company she represented and things progressed normally. She asked me to describe my experience and background. After briefly explaining the progression of my career, she asked if I was at all interested in sales. I told her I wasn't. We then continued having a cordial conversation about my management style and experience. At the end of the call, she said that she liked what she heard and said that she thought I would be a good candidate for the manager-in-training position. It wasn't until after I hung up the phone that I realized she never took the time to describe the position to me or tell me more about the company. The only information she gave me was that they had multiple locations spanning all the way to Ireland. This was a huge red flag for me and I knew something was amiss. Upon further research, I learned that this company uses a number of fake job titles to get people in for interviews for commission-based insurance sales positions. I decided to call her back and respectfully cancel the interview. I knew I made the right choice when she responded only with, "Okay, thank you for your time. Have a great day." She didn't even bother to ask why I had changed my mind. She knew I had found out what they do. This company uses shady tactics and omission of the truth to get people in for an interview. There's nothing wrong with insurance sales if that's what you're into, but using misleading job titles and other shady recruitment tactics say a lot about the company and how they treat people. I recommend anyone and everyone to steer clear of this company both from an applicant and customer perspective.

      Interview

They talk more than you do and they take all of your questions in the beginning of the interview and wait until the end to answer them. This isn't really an interview but more of a sales pitch. They are trying to sell you on joining their pyramid model. They want you to become a "manager in training" meaning every sale you make, your manager gets a cut of.. then when you become a manager you have to recruit more people to sell under you. It's ridiculous that they treat this like an interview. They don't care who you are, they just want you to sell so they can make money off of you. The job is also 100% commission, they don't offer base salaries.

      Question 1

What did you like about your last job? What questions do you have? Tell me about yourself Questions about how much money you need to make to pay your bills - so they can try to sell you that you can make that much money

      Interview

Not at all what I thought the job was. They purposefully hide what the job is until you get there... it’s quite ridiculous and unprofessional. It’s insurance sales... the company tries to market towards people looking for customer service or management positions.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at American Income Life (Arlington Heights, IL) in Feb 2019

      Interview

A three-step interview. Had a quick one-on-one, followed by a group interview, followed by another one-on-one. They don't really explain what you do until the last interview. I didn't find out it was a commission only job till the last interview. During the group interview they do an overview of everything and make the job sound amazing due to the money, but it's just another door-to-door sales job at the end of the day. If you're not into sales, don't bother with this company.
