      Senior Data Scientist Interview

      3 Aug 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cambridge, England
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Arm (Cambridge, England) in Jun 2018

      Interview

I applied online, using an employee referral. Two weeks later, I received an invite for a phone interview with the hiring manager and one of the senior data scientists in the team. The phone call lasted about 45min. Apart from the usual questions about my motivation for a job change, why this role and why ARM also some technical questions about standard ML techniques. Also time to ask questions at the end of the interview. About one month later I received an invite for an on-site interview. This interview lasted 90min and was a panel interview with the whole team. Again, a mix of technical questions, questions probing my background, previous projects and motivation. Overall, the interview was professional and pleasant and I got the impression that this team enjoys their work. I felt that I gave good answers to all questions, so I cannot be sure why I did not make it. As a feedback to ARM, I would recommend to split the 90min interview into several parts. A 90min session is exhausting for the interviewee. I also felt the format of a panel interview (~7 vs 1) is not ideal for the recruiting team, some team members hardly had time to ask questions.

Many thanks for coming back to us to share insight on your experience, and please accept our apologies that you have not yet received an update on the status of your application. It sounds as though there were several positives to the interviews which were conducted, ie, relevant lines of questioning and a rigorous format, but a meeting of 90 minutes’ duration may have benefitted from a comfort break at a timely point. Regarding your point on the numbers of panel members, these are chosen according to their potential involvement with the role of the new postholder, and would have been included to explore that perspective. This saves the need for separate (and more time-consuming meetings) Please let’s explore this further by engaging with us at Glassdoorfeedback@arm.com where we can obtain specific interview feedback for you and ensure that we can pass on your feedback to the relevant team.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Arm (Cambridge, England) in May 2023

      Interview

      (i) Extra ordinarily slow recruitment process. After 2 weeks, still waiting to hear back on the result of first round interview (which was arranged 1+ month after the original application). (ii) While receiving the invitation for for the first round interview, recruiter also added "I’d appreciate if you could inform me if you want to withdraw your application from the process." Possibly, they know candidates will have other jobs offer by the time, they will finish their process. (iii) 30 hour interview with 3 interviewers is definitely not sufficient time neither for them to ask any intelligent questions nor for candidates to describe their career history and skillset. All chaos.
