I was recruited for this position and underwent an exhaustive two-month process that included three interviews, a paid project at a low hourly rate, and a 60-minute presentation. Despite completing everything, I received a Slack message followed by an email nearly four weeks after completing my trial process and presentation, informing me that I hadn't gotten the job.
While I was added to a Slack group for project support, the assistance was minimal. Frustratingly, the feedback on my project didn't align with the original requirements of the project or the interview questions.
I was genuinely excited about the opportunity to become an Automattician, and the people I interacted with were friendly. However, the length of the process was concerning and served as a huge red flag.
The most frustrating part was signing a non-compete agreement during the trial, which forced me to decline consulting work, only to be left without an offer. When I was told I could reapply in 12 months, I was appalled. Given my experience during the interview process, I have no intention of reapplying.
