I applied online. I interviewed at Azumuta in Feb 2024
Interview
The interview had (or was supposed to have 3 stages): introduction talk, technical assessment, talk with the CEO.
The first stage was ok - a general talk about the company, my profile and whether we align or not. Apparently we did since we moved forward.
The second stage, a technical assessment in a form of a 'homework' and discussion about the results - I received feedback that I did more than expected and it was definitely positive.
Then I was supposed to have a talk with the CEO... He never reached out to me, so after 2 weeks I contacted the person from the previous stage - he said that the CEO will reach out to me soon. After another week I contacted the CEO directly and received a response that:
1. They are not able to accommodate a remote worker - even though that's what we discussed from day one and I already expressed readiness to come to the office once in a while.
2. My financial expectations are too high - I'm perfectly aware of the Belgian market rates and for a person of my experience I already went down about 30% down due to the remote character of work. When I asked what rates are they aiming for, I was ghosted.
I wouldn't evaluate the experience as definitely negative if it wasn't for the disrespectful lack of communication in the later stages of the process.
Overall - sadly, it was a waste of time. Possibly because of poor internal communication in the company but also because of unrealistic budget for the position and ultimate ghosting by the CEO.
