I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Canonical in Dec 2023
Interview
This was so frustrating. First, you apply, then you will receive a list of questions about EVERYTHING! That is the written interview.
A few questions that don't make any sense for the role (Visual UI Designer):
- How do you find the balance between innovation and consistency in a multi-product
design team?
- In high school, how did you rank competitively in maths and hard sciences? Which
was your strongest? (Excuse me, WHAT!? o.O)
- What leadership roles did you take on during your education?
After you receive a test, the so-called psychometric assessment. The test is stressful; you must be fast and accurate. Even though you get good results from the psychometric evaluation, this doesn't guarantee your advancement to the next step in their hiring process.
You will receive an email to rate the hiring process in a few days. This means your application is closed :)
Congrats! You've spent hours, if not days, giving proper and detailed 5-6 pages answers to the written interview questions and going through the "Circles of Hell," the psychometric assessment, and yet you just left with a survey link and a blurred excuse for why you are not hired.
Don't get me wrong, the hiring lead assigned to you communicates with respect, but the process is just a waste of time.

Question 1
What sort of high school student were you? Outside of class, what were your
interests and hobbies? What would your high school peers remember you for, if we
asked them.
