      Business Analyst Interview

      15 Jul 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at Centene (Austin, TX) in Jul 2016

      Interview

My search for employment brought me to Centene, as they had multiple opportunities posted on their career portal, on the state unemployment career portal, on a nationally recognized 3rd party portal, and finally posted with a local (nationally recognized) technical recruiter. I applied to no less than seven postings with this company over the course of a year. With all of them, there was no feedback or response to my submissions. The status of the submissions according to their career site was "inactive". I had assumed these postings were discontinued or no longer being filled. However I would continue to see new postings with the company for similar positions. At this point I figured a bot was simply spamming postings for some unknown metric. My most recent interaction with this company came when I responded to a local recruiter's posting for a business analyst. The recruiter performed a phone screen and determined that I would be a good fit. She worked with me to polish my resume, which ultimately wound up back the way it was originally given to her. She stated she would submit me to the client. It was only after she acknowledged me for submission did I hear that it was for the Centene. The hiring manager approved my submission and informed the recruiter to setup an interview. I arrived at the recruiters office for the interview early, was received by the recruiter, and waited for the manager. Once the interview began, the manager took most of the time talking about the position and the qualities she was seeking in a candidate. I was able to answer my questions through the discussion but towards the end she asked me to give a summary of my experience. However, not even a minute into my summary she abruptly interrupted me, grabbed her phone, and checked to see how much time was left. Mind you, she was late to start our meeting by 20 minutes, and used the remaining 30-45 minutes to give her part. In the end she stated that with a bit more experience I could command a triple digit salary, and work for any company I wanted, but at this time she did not think I was capable of the position to which she was hiring and that I would fill more of a junior role. When asked if she recognized my training as a business analyst backed by BABOK principles, she floundered with my resume to find it. Not feeling that I was making headway I decided to blatantly ask if she would hire a junior for the role. She avoided the question by stating she could hire any level she wanted.

      Interview

Lengthy interview process, but the recruiters and team leaders do a great job of setting expectations of what the following interview rounds will look like. Recruiters are also very responsive to questions in between rounds of interviews.
