      Senior Software Developer Interview

      31 Mar 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CircleCI (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2021

      Interview

      1. Recruite introduction (went well except the recruiter wasn't very clear on the salary bands and kept confusion USD with CAD) 2. Sync with Hiring Manager (went well) 4. Interview with Karat (went well) 5. Interview with two engineers at CircleCI (sucked) Couple of points why interview with the Engineers was a bad experience. 1. CircleCI uses a slightly uncommon tech stack focussed on functional programming. Coming from a OO background I always kept asking/confirming with the recruiter right from the 1st call that I dont have experience with OOP and the recruiter, the HM both kept saying it doesnt matter, we are very open and as long as you clear the interview, we are fine. Then the Engineers turn up in the final round and asked me if I have experience with a functional programming language. I told them I know Scala, but it is not fully functional. I found one of the engineers to be a little rude when for one of the questions, I asked if my answer was sufficient or should I clarify more - He basically said you are trying to sell yourself to us, so you can judge. Even if I wanted to I could not imagine myself working alongside someone who basically told me to sell myself to him in my interview. Result - After a week, the recruiter got back and told me they were looking for someone with experience in one of the functional languages. I understand and respect the requirements of role. The only regret I have is that if I was told that this is a requirement and not a nice-to-have, I could save myself around 7-10 days of interview preparations and 5 actual interview hours.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. Standard easy leetcode in Karat interview. 2. EM interview was mostly behavioural. 3. Engineer interview was an unstructured interaction. They were basically looking for a "Vibe" match instead of following a standard process.

      Interview

First round interview was with Hiring manager, and went into behavioral question after brief talk. The behavioral question is similar to those of Amazon. I did not advance to next round.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CircleCI (Toronto, ON) in Oct 2024

      Interview

it took around 4 weeks, there were 3 rounds of interview, the 1st one was the code pairing challenge which was straight forward, the rest were just unstructured discussions with 2 other engs asking you about a challenge you had in the past and try to find out how deep you are in what you claim. the strange part is that they don't seem very transparent, after having all interviews I got rejected by a templated email with the subject thank you for you're time :)) I asked for feedback and they didn't responded so far, beside what they have mentioned on that template. my advice is to not waste your time with them.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      28 Dec 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CircleCI in Dec 2021

      Interview

I applied online. Recruiters, hiring managers, and engineers are very nice people. Interviews are described well. There were many steps. I failed at the first technical interview. First interview: There is a pair engineer and an observer engineer. A small story with a small project, and three tasks to accomplish. Tasks are easy but the aim is to refactor the given code while solving tasks. Duration is 40 minutes so don't get lost in reading several times or running after weird cases. The story is actually straightforward, with no hidden tricks. Just start with test cases. Always check with the pair programmer. I aimed to refactor after the third task but I forgot about the time. At least refactor the obvious parts. I also spent a lot of time talking and sharing what can be done instead of coding. Talking is good but don't forget to code.
