      Systems Reliability Engineer Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate

      Declined offer
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cloudflare in Jun 2021

      Interview

I have nothing but positivity to share here. I have interviewed with the plethora of tech companies and hands down this is the most humane and (loving) one. The interview process from the beginning to the end was lengthy, but for a good reason. You really are presented an opportunity to learn about Cloudflare from all levels. As long as you are passionate, honest, and have skills they are looking for, you should not have a problem. It starts with a call from the hiring manager, then a tech screen, then a virtual onsite interview loop (consisting of 5 interviews), then two more interviews with their leadership. The offer is very competitive, includes RSU's, and even relocation assistance if you require it. I highly recommend you give them a chance.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cloudflare (London, England) in Jun 2022

      Interview

Don't get biased by what I am going to say. ALL of the interviews and interviewers were great, I felt really welcomed by the company and my potential teammates. Everyone was kind and charming and even the more technical ones felt like a coffee chat and not a proper facebook-like interview. End to end the process was really amazing and the tech recruiters where driving me by the hand, also my potential manager was there to ask me and resolve any questions. The interviews where difficult but with the pleasure that these were all real world examples and things you would expect to work on the day by day. Even if everything went well and I passed the interviews although this should not be news for anyone, Cloudflare does not pay above market, more like it pays below with a total compensation + RSUs and I think that is fine and its faire because the company has a brand name (you can even check Matthew Prince's tweeting about it), what I do not realise is HOW AWFULLY they managed the after-interview process. The moment I said I wanted to see if there was room for negotiation they just closed the door and everything went sideways, I had to email them everytime to ask for a meeting or remind them that I was waiting for their answer. It is truly sad that a company with such present and future potential treats people that REALLY wants to work with them this way. I hope anyone who reads this do not have the same experience as I did, for me was something like an idol going down as Cloudflare was one of my top 5 companies to work for, ever.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Technical questions where more or less like: - Screening: They would give you access to a VM with a bunch of excersises that go from linux internals to programming, very nice and the interviewer goes with you at all times - 1st tech: Open discussion about distributed systems with two examples on "how would you debug or do this" - 2nd tech: Pair-Programming interview, typical interview about data structures and algorithms, you don't have to be an O(1) obsessed but know where are the potential benefits/withdraws and understand where are the areas of improvement, understand whether your code is memory or cpu bound. - Cultural interviews: More like a coffee chat, describe situations at work, how do you work things around, etc.
