I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Community Connections (Washington, DC) in May 2026
Interview
Interviewed for an AVP position and advanced through multiple rounds, including meetings with HR, Finance, Accounting, Executive Leadership, and the CEO. The process was professional, and communication from the recruiter was generally strong throughout.
Positives:
* CEO was engaging, strategic, and clearly focused on organizational growth.
* Mission-driven organization with a long history of serving the community.
* Interview process provided meaningful exposure to leadership and operational priorities.
Areas for Improvement:
* Organizational culture was not clearly articulated during the interview process.
* Turnover and workload expectations were discussed, raising questions about work-life balance.
* Executive leadership participation in the final interview stage was more limited than expected.
* Decision timeline extended beyond initial expectations.
Overall, a professional process with a strong mission and leadership vision, but candidates should carefully assess culture, workload expectations, and compensation alignment during the interview process.

Interview
Interviewed with the consultant CFO, CEO, and then the executive team for this executive role. Final panel interview was disorganized and not well structured. CEO ghosted me after promising to contact me and shaking my hand, unprofessional and dishonerable behavior that deserves a call out here. Be weary of taking a job with this organization that is trying to run a non-profit with outdated management approaches from the 1980s.

Question 1
Would you be comfortable firing staff who are underperforming in their roles?
The interview process was relatively informal. It began with a phone call to schedule an in-person interview. The in-person portion was with the group manager. Basic questions to gauge interest and baseline skills. Good and easy experience.
