I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Cropsy Technologies (Auckland, Auckland) in Sept 2023
Interview
One initial meet-the-team over video, one take home test (React/Typescript front end test - quite real-world), one fairly pleasant and collegial on-site meet-the-team at their office. Founders are young technically brilliant but professionally green recent uni grads. Product is cutting-edge and truly innovative. 3 days onsite was a hard requirement, regardless of individual circumstances. The offer was withdrawn when I asked for the opportunity to revisit the onsite arrangement after building up some goodwill and a track record of delivery (while accepting the onsite arrangement to start). There was no negotiation, just a panic reaction. It's quite a red flag for any potential employee and suggests a lack of maturity - if they "spit the dummy" about this, they'll probably do so in other situations. Overall a disappointing outcome, but I'm glad I didn't go further.

Question 1
Some basic front end data manipulation, react and typescript.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your comments and would like to clarify the details of your key complaint. The hybrid work structure - Mon, Wed, Fri in office and 2 days optional WFH days - is critical to our work due to the multidisciplinary engineering nature of our business. We made it clear that this arrangement was not negotiable during the first interview and on the job ad, but we recognised your situation and offered to pay for your ferry costs from/to Waiheke.
We don’t believe waiting until the last step to bring up concerns with non-negotiable details is a good way to start a professional relationship, and so we could not continue.
