I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Definity (Toronto, ON) in Aug 2021
Interview
Overall, my interviewing experience for ESG Manager at Economical Insurance was quite negative.
It begins with a recruiter reaching out to me for a position with two days of interview slots. I asked for the following week as I was on vacation with my family. She said her colleague would reach out to me to take over as she isn’t available beyond those days. Two weeks go by and the colleague still did not contact me, nor has the recruiter replied to my follow-up.
I ended up tracking the colleague down on LinkedIn and scheduled a time for a screening where he said he will send me a meeting invitation. I never received the invite so I went back to LinkedIn the day of our screening and finally got him on the phone.
The screening went well and I was moved hurriedly onto a second interview with the hiring manager as I was considered “a strong candidate.” The Head of ESG interviewed me and it went pretty well. He asked me some tough questions for which I had wonderful example-based responses. We talked for over an hour and the interview ended with him asking me to get three references and to prepare for a final interview with his boss as a formality later that week. . . Sounds promising, right?
Fast forward two weeks and still no invitation for a third interview. I followed up with the hiring manager and 3-4 days later I get a short email saying they are taking the position in a new direction (and shortly after reposted the position under a new name with the same description). I thanked him for his time and politely asked for feedback for which I have yet to receive a reply.
I am sure the teams are very busy but all candidates deserve respect and I don’t feel like I received it during this interviewing process. I hope the talent acquisition teams use these reviews to improve their processes and communication.
