      Software Engineer(Internship) Interview

      7 Sept 2017
      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at GitHub (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2016

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter to set up a 30 minute phone screen. She specifically talked about my cover letter. That was just generic get to know you and your interests interview. That went well so I interviewed for 30 more minutes with the team I would be on's manager. This was half technical, half behavioral, with the technical being theoretical solutions. Then I interviewed with 2 members of the team I'd be on for an hour over zoom screen sharing and controlling one of the interviewers screens. I was nervous since it was laggy, but it was 2 short technical exercises. They warned me it might take the whole time but we finished in a bout half. The exercises were based off solving an issue and adding to a pull request. All the interviews were over the phone or zoom (video sharing).

      Interview

I applied through a referral, and I applied online. After I sent the application, got a take home exercise about simple API exercise in GoLang or Ruby on Rails (I had no experience with either languages and I chose Go). I passed the take home interview.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub in Nov 2018

      Interview

First is the take-home challenge built in Rails. After this was an interview with your potential manager which was half behavioral, half theoretical technical questions. Final round was a couple behavioral interviews and a technical interview. Process moved very quickly which was great.

      Question 1

Take-home challenge was building a simple application with Rails.
