I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub (New York, NY) in Feb 2018
Interview
All the interviews were conducted in sets of 1 hour video calls with a pair of GitHub employees. The first interview was a technical interview where you have to write code live with two other engineers observing. They actually help you think out and work though the problem as if they were your every-day co-workers, so it’s not like a typical whiteboard style coding exercise. The 2nd interview was for interpersonal skills and was with other managers. The 3rd interview was for cultural management skills, again with other managers. The overall process takes a few weeks so be patient. They evaluate you at the end of every interview before deciding if you get the next one.
While I wasn’t offered the position, ultimately, they were very nice in letting me know at a high level which interviews I did well in and which one I did not, so I am able to focus on improving my skills in those areas to be a better candidate in the future. I really appreciated that because a lot of companies give you zero feedback and just throw you to the curb. I think this speaks volumes of GitHub’s culture.
