I applied online. I interviewed at Givery in Sept 2025
Interview
The interview process included a 5.5-hour coding test assessing technical skills, a 45-minute casual chat discussing background and motivation, and 2 hours of team interviews focused on collaboration, problem-solving, and cultural fit.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Some technical questions about development, particularly on the current project you are working on. Overall, basic stuff like the difference between real DOM vs virtual DOM, etc.
Extremely unpleasant. Before even speaking to you, they expect you to do a 4-6 hour coding test for leetcode type problems that don't even apply to what a programmer would do day to day. Very bad experience. A normal company would not do things like this
I applied online through a job board I found. The job description said it was remote and didn't specify that it was remote only within Japan. Scheduling a call was complicated; I find it so ironic that a company whose star tool is recruiting software doesn't know what Calendly or any similar tool is. Once the appointment was confirmed, there was no follow-up about who the interview would be with. I assumed it was with HR, but that wasn't the case. It was a very pleasant interview with the team manager. It was in that interview that I found out the position is actually remote, but only in Japan. In conclusion: an unclear job posting description, no scheduling tools, and no informative follow-up about the first interview. A very bad experience. And it has nothing to do with being remote.
