      Senior Data Scientist Interview

      3 Oct 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Raleigh, NC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at IBM (Raleigh, NC) in Sept 2017

      Interview

I applied online - I received a call from HR within few days and after few days I received an email from Hiring Manager for telephonic interview. The interview was for 30 mins both Hiring Manager and Team Lead had a conference call with me. They were mostly listening and asked only 2-3 general questions. After the interview I was confused whether they liked me or not - I felt I answered all the questions and reconfirmed from them if they need me to explain anything that I missed but they said I answered all the questions. Surprisingly after 1 week they declined my application.

      Senior Data Scientist Interview

      12 Nov 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Hyderābād
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at IBM (Hyderābād) in Sept 2024

      Interview

Interview Process: The process began with an initial screening where HR seemed quite positive about my background and experience. They discussed the role in detail, and the conversation left me feeling confident. In the following rounds, I had interviews with the technical team, covering core topics in my field, and I felt I matched well with their requirements. Throughout these stages, I received encouraging feedback, which built my anticipation. After the interviews, HR indicated that things were moving in the right direction and that I could expect an offer soon. This led me to believe I had successfully cleared all rounds and just needed the final confirmation. The entire process seemed aligned with a positive outcome, which made the wait exciting. Feedback: After a couple of days, I was shocked to receive a rejection email instead of the expected offer. The email was a standard rejection with no specific feedback, leaving me frustrated and confused, especially after the earlier positive signals. It’s disappointing when feedback contradicts what was initially communicated, and I’m left wondering if there were internal reasons or last-minute decisions behind the change.

      Interview

I was at the first technical screening round, where I was asked to solve two tasks on HackerRank. It tooks ~1hr, and I submitted with all tests passed. However, I never heard back, not even for an automated rejection. The recruitment team should be more respectful of applicants' time.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

There were two questions, one was to write code to count occurrences in a string, and the other was the write a moderately complex SQL query.
