      Food Service Worker Interview

      15 Oct 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Richmond, BC
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at IKEA (Richmond, BC) in Oct 2016

      Interview

I applied online through an ad on the IKEA website. I got an e-mail 12 days later inviting me for a phone interview. During the phone interview, I was asked about availability, what I knew about IKEA, why I wanted to work there, and why I would be a good fit for the job. She then invited me for a one on one interview in 3 days. I was greeted and taken to a private room where a friendly lady reviewed my resume and asked some questions about it and my availability. She gave me a description of the job and the duties as well as how long shifts were, etc. She then asked me some basic interview questions and even though I had no food and beverage experience, she thought I could be a good fit for the job. She asked if I was thinking about staying at IKEA for the long-term and told me about the advancement opportunities. Near the end of the interview, she asked if I had any travel plans for the next year and I told her I was going to visit family for 10 days near Christmas and going on vacation for 10 days in February. She basically said that was a deal-breaker and that I couldn't get the job if I was leaving during December because they were very busy at that time and other employees had booked that time off since February. She encouraged me to apply again after I got back in February and she gave me her phone number and e-mail so that she could conduct another interview with me at that time.
