I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Icon Group (Berlin) in Jul 2020
Interview
1st Round:
A call with the head of Software Engineering. General tech discussions, review of the resume. and general talk about the role, organization, and business.
2nd Round:
It is a take-home assignment, they expect a candidate to spend 8 hours on it.
They want a candidate to create a web server, with authentication and a few other APIs, it should have Redis and Postgres too. They also expect unit and integration tests using docker-compose.
The candidate is invited to slack channel where there are some folks from Iconmobile. They stress a lot on communication, ask questions, etc. hence the slack channel.
While the premise is good. No one bothers to reply to questions asked on the slack channel.
The assignment is too big to even complete on a weekend.
And after the assignment, there was no feedback and no code review. Just "We decided to go ahead with another candidate who had a stronger assignment"
It is really unprofessional to expect a candidate to spend 8 hours on an assignment and not giving back any actionable feedback. I won't even be surprised if they are using these assignments for their own benefit.
I was apprehensive interviewing for Iconmobile because of the reviews they have on glassdoor. But judging by my experience these reviews seem to have some element of truth in them. Stay away if you value your time.
