I was approached by a third party recruiter about the Knowledge Engineer position at Imperva. within 24 hours of the approach by the recruiter, I was contacted by someone at Imperva. After a shorter than usual telephone conversation, a huge plus, I was asked to set up an interview - first with someone from HR.
The interview was standard and unstructured and lasted for about 45 minutes. I say unstructured because I was not asked any questions about how I would create a presentation, what tools I was able to use. I was not given any tests about any applications or PC use, nor was asked to give a one or two minute presentation about anything. These are all skills a Knowledge Engineer would need. Asking any of these questions would create at least the basis for a structured interview.
At the end of the interview it was explained to me that they, Imperva, were at the beginning of the process and that someone would contact me in about a week regarding the next steps.
About a week later I was sent a standard email saying that there were so many good candidates that they decided to proceed with someone else.
A question:
1) On what basis was this decision made? The standard unstructured interview has been shown time and time again to be not only bad at picking the right candidate but that all it does is introduce the bias of the interviewer into the process.
At this point I should say that I am over 50
