      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      7 Jan 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Portland, OR
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Jive Software (Portland, OR) in Nov 2015

      Interview

After the initial application, I received a phone call and had a brief phone interview. The call was followed by an email asking me to build a simple web application. This was something I had never done, and much of the technologies I needed to leverage I had to learn from zero. But I did in two weeks, so with determination you can do it! Finally, I was called in for an in person interview with 5 different Jive members from the Support department. They met with me one at a time, asking me questions related to different aspects of the position. Some were more technical, others more personal. Overall, it was a very nice experience!

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

      Question 2

Q: Tell me about a time when you had a to deal with a difficult situation and it went well. How about one where it went poorly.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 11+ months. I interviewed at Jive Software in Mar 2016

      Interview

Smooth and well organized! The hiring manager was extremely friendly and although the process took nearly a year for me (personal reasons) they were still enthusiastic to hire me a year later.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Jive Software (Portland, OR) in Feb 2016

      Interview

After applying I receieved a call about a week later about the position. The position was advertised as a Junior Java Engineer, but in actuality it was Tech Support Engineer. The phone call was about the pay/benefits/culture of Jive. The next step was to code an application using java and their framework, fairly simple. If your app works, you would get an in person interview, but before the interview there was another phone screen. For the actual interview it was quite lengthy. 6 different people for 30 minutes at a time. Only 1 interviewer was asking technical questions about java/sql. Everyone else was primarily scoping you out for a character fit. A lot of the questions were redundant, but there wasn't any gotcha questions.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Name the 4 java access modifiers and what do they do.
