      IT Support Analyst Interview

      22 Jul 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Mereo BioPharma (London, England) in Jun 2024

      Interview

3 Stage Interview, two of which were more like an interrogation and that's for a mid-senior role. Worst interview experience I've ever had, simply horrible. One of the interviewers literally called me arrogant and kept asking me intrusive questions. Some of the phrases she used: -"On the 2nd stage interview you came across as arrogant and overconfident." -"Does your girlfriend perceive you as shy?" -"You are dressed very casually, and I noticed that you are wearing trainers, how do you feel about dressing office smart?" During an interview one should not receive a comment on what they are wearing. If they didn't like my outfit, they could have kept a note and discuss it with their team. There are better ways to ask how I feel about dressing in a specific style but making remarks about what I am wearing is not one. Also, later after I had a chat with the other interviewer I was told that my outfit was suited for their dress code. "Your whole IT career is only 3 years and you have changed 3 companies, what is the reason for this?" Now this sounds innocent, but it stops being innocent when you ask more than twice, and the tone of voice is plain rude. To me it sounded that there was an assumption that I was a bad person and that is why I was leaving jobs. I would expect from these senior interviewers to realize that each of my roles is an upgrade from the previous one. Changing jobs says you are versatile, quick to learn new skills and not afraid to try new challenges. Also since when should someone be apologetic for wanting to progress their career and seek for new, better rewarding opportunities...? After all this nonsense I asked the recruiter to arrange a call with the hiring manager to address some of these issues. I asked how the work culture is, if it would possible to get a laptop with a bigger screen as the one that I saw seemed to have a small screen, if I would get access to manage firewall/router and one more personal question regarding some health issues. He reassured me that everyone is friendly, polite etc and he will check with HR about the health question to confirm the company's policy. Little later after my call with the hiring manager, the recruiter sends me an email that they like to hire me and he sent me a preview of their offer which was £1,500 less than what I agreed with the recruiter and there were also some discrepancies about the company benefits compared to what I was told before which I have queried with the recruiter and he said that there is no flexibility. Couple hours later I get a call from the recruiter saying that they withdrew the offer. The reason was that they found my 4 questions "demanding" and that they didn't like that I "criticised" their laptops. (All I asked was if I could have a laptop with a bigger screen) 3 interview (interrogation) stages where I was asked rude and intrusive questions and I only asked 4 simple questions! This is a clear indication that they are not supportive and that my voice wouldn't be heard. The one interviewer was terribly rude and biased and because of that I was not going to take the offer. She should represent the company in a better way and not conduct interviews in such an insensitive and intrusive manner. Avoid them

Thank you for taking time to leave this review. Mereo runs a very professional recruitment process, and as an emerging growth company, has very high standards. Unfortunately, not all candidates can be successful, but Mereo does try to ensure that the interview experience is both positive and constructive. Mereo has been running these processes for over nine years with many candidates at all levels of seniority and over that period has worked with many different recruitment agencies in a transparent and highly communicative way. We welcome all feedback on our interview process and to date, have only had very positive feedback about our efficient and open process. We understand that questions can sometimes be interpreted in a way that wasn’t intended and will reflect on this. It is important for us to clarify that we always talk about our external stakeholders, in a respectful and appropriate manner. We do wish you all the best in your future career.
