      Sales Associate Interview

      17 Mar 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Fort Worth, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Old Navy (Fort Worth, TX) in Mar 2012

      Interview

I went in and asked the manager if they were hiring and for what positions. She told me they were very understaffed and needed sales associates and stock room attendents. I mentioned I was wanting to go to school at some point and that I was interested in the stocking position. I was directed to take the assessment online and then she would set up an interview. I did that and 2 days later she called to set up an interview. When I got there the store was really busy. I tried to find an associate on the floor but there weren't any. Only 2 out of 4 cash registers were open and only one person working the dressing room. Me and another girl were brought to the break room in the back. The manager (over sales associates) started by asking us what we were looking for. The other girl went first and then I went. I told her I was wanting as many hours as possible either part time or full time. I was quickly informed that only managers get full time. Then I mentioned I would prefer some form of set hours. Having worked in a stock room before, I know shipments only come on certain days and hours so thought it wouldn't be a big deal to at least mention it. Apparently that was a hot button issue for her because she flipped out on me and informed me that was not at all possible and that I could leave now if it was going to be a problem. She went on about that for a good 5 minutes. I decided to stay after that just for the experience of interiviewing but could really care less if I got the job. Then she went on to inform me if I was wanting the stock room position I would need to be available for specific days of the week and at very specific times. I wanted to inform her, that that was a set schedual. She went on to tell us that the store was underpreforming to the point of being the 25th lowest out of 26 stores in the area, its always unorganized, that they can never keep staff. So basically, the store is a chaotic mess. On top of that, no matter how well I preform at the job, I will never be able to even get full time. So basically there is no incintive for me to do more then the minimum that it takes for me to keep the job. She literally listed nothing positive about working there. Hearing her speak, it sounded more like a burden then anything else. Why would I want to work there if even she doesn't? Yes she was smiling the whole time like any good retail manager does, but her words were all negative. If I get it and bother working there, it'll only be until I can find something better. If you want to work here, emphasize any sales experience and show them that your high energy. Also remember, this is your chance to interview them just as their interviewing you. See if its something you want to do day after day, week after week.
