      Sales Associate Interview

      20 Jul 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Torrance, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Old Navy (Torrance, CA) in Jul 2010

      Interview

I applied online about a week or two before I got called in for an interview. My interview was at 10:30 a.m., and as I got to the store I noticed a group of people standing around and I knew then that this was going to be a group interview. I stood around with them for about five minutes until a woman called us in to their back room. She led us to a table and another woman asked for the people who were there to be interviewed at 10:15. At that point I thought in my head,"Wow.. these people have been waiting around longer than I have. How unprofessional." So I was sitting there, looking around, thinking about how ghetto the place looked. However, they did have a Rock Band and a Wii (or was it a different console?) set up, which was pretty cool. They also had a small flat screen TV so I was pretty occupied while I was waiting. The workers were alright, but did not seem like the crowd I see myself working with. Thirty minutes later, those who were to be interviewed at 10:30 were called in. By that time it was already 11 o' clock, and I was wondering why I showed up, since I don't even shop at the store, much less why I even applied to Old Navy. At first I kind of made an effort to make a good impression during the interview, but as the interview went on I started to not really care about my answers since I didn't even want to work there anymore, especially after seeing the atmosphere and vibe in the back room. The woman who interviewed us said that after this interview, the people who would get a call would need to come in for another interview with another manager (I'm assuming the store manager), where they would be put out on the floor so that their interactions toward customers could be observed. At that point if they are hired, they would be working as a for part-time seasonal employee, and after the initial ninety days have passed they would be chosen to work as a regular employee based on their previous work. The questions were actually easier than most interviews, in fact they seemed pretty elementary. However, we were asked to think of a product and sell it to the interviewer, so if you really want to work for Old Navy I suggest getting prepared for that.
