      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at OpenUp (Amsterdam) in Jan 2026

      Interview

Had 4 interview rounds, including meeting some team members and a case. Until this point, I enjoyed the conversations. The last round was a walk with the CEO. This was quite a strange experience. First I had to wait 10 minutes for him in the office. During the walk, he started giving me a psychological assessment of sorts, saying that how he perceived me (mind you, we spoke for 20 min) I was too introverted for the role and he wanted someone more outgoing. I left that meeting very confused and disrespected. Eventually I got the call that I was rejected because I showed 'low energy' during the interview and some other unnecessary personal reasons. I've never had such a disrespectful interview with a founder of a company.

Thank you for sharing your experience so openly. We’re genuinely sorry to read that you left the final conversation feeling confused and disrespected. That is not how we want anyone to experience our hiring process. Candidate experience matters deeply to us, and we take any feedback about how someone felt during our interview process seriously. Gijs would be more than willing to have a follow-up conversation to better understand your experience and reflect on it together. If you would like, we would be happy to also connect you with the other employees involved in the hiring process. If you are open to this, please reach out to us at hrquestions@openup.com, and we will gladly arrange a direct conversation. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
