I applied through university. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at PNC Financial Services Group (Philadelphia, PA) in Mar 2011
Interview
College resume submission for summer internship. I was notified that I had been selected for an interview. There was an information session followed by a meet and greet with the interviewers. Interview with two people one on one. Was selected for a super day. Flew to Philadelphia for dinner the night before. Super day consisted of about 6 half hour interviews each with multiple interviewers. Heard back a couple of months later that I had been offered an internship and was given two weeks to accept.

I applied through university. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at PNC Financial Services Group
Interview
The entire process was very easy. I flew to Raleigh for a two day "superday" interview. There was a networking event one night followed by three half hour interviews over the next morning. All behavioral questions. Just relax and be outgoing, and you should have no problem. PNC allows you to preference locations, but has a tendency to stick you anywhere in the country.
