      IOS Developer Interview

      5 Oct 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PayPay in Aug 2022

      Interview

I only made it to the second round but found the process a bit unfair. Fist stage - Codility Link Was given a problem to make a currency converter app that the other reviews talk about. Passed this stage and made it to the second. Second Stage - Interview Was asked a variety of questions about the app I made, common iOS questions, overview of experience and a leetcode at the end of the interview. I wasn't able to answer every iOS related question but a lot of it was just trivia that is easily available to google. The main part I found unfair was that I was expected to do the leetcode in 15 minutes. I looked up the problem after the interview and saw it was rated as hard. I find it a bit ridiculous to expect someone to figure out a hard problem they've never seen before in 15 minutes. Overall it left me with a bad experience. Whether I got the job or not if the leetcode question hadn't been there or was easier/I had more time but everything else was the same I wouldn't have as much of a problem.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at PayPay in Sept 2023

      Interview

First, a third-party recruiter reached out and asked me to submit a home assignment: building a simple currency converter. After passing this round, I was invited for the technical round, which was unexpectedly flat and lacked any real technical discussions. Instead, I was asked some predefined questions, which I later found were already available here in other interview feedbacks. Despite answering around 80% of the questions correctly, I wasn't passed, indicating that they expected verbatim answers to their predefined questions. In my opinion, this approach is very traditional and doesn't account for the fact that there can be multiple correct answers to a technical interview question. This experience suggests that the work environment might prioritize order and discipline over creativity. During the interview, I was also asked a DSA question, which was not explained clearly. The interviewer gave confused hints, which made me doubt whether even the interviewer was sure about the question. The only positive aspect of the entire interview process was the recruiter, who was very helpful and explained the process thoroughly.

All the technical interview questions can be found here in others interview feedback. They ask the same questions to every candidate.
