      Chief Product Officer Interview

      31 Jul 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Revolut (London, England) in Mar 2020

      Interview

Probably the worst hiring experience of my career. Nick and his team of “Yes Men” (there are no woman in this company in any senior roles) took me through 10 interviews in 4 months. Each week the process changed and each week new “challenges” were added. I was warned by every top tier headhunting firm in the world not to waste my time with Nick and Revolut but I stupidly ignored them. The internal recruiting team is out of their depth to be hiring for a role like this. They never kept me informed and would sometimes go a week plus without communication. Nick himself has devised the most ridiculous hiring style / process which is akin to being asked questions by a robot. Think 1.5 hours of interrogation with no dialogue after you respond. Just another question. The product team is a mess with most of it being made up by mercenaries from other countries with little experience in actual product organizations. The home task took many more hours to complete than they say (if you want full marks). At the end of the process they added a problem solving interview. You know, because that’s the cool thing to do these days. After everything, they tried to offer me the role with a lower title because Nick isn’t ready to give up any control to anyone. Ever. I went into this with high hopes but after seeing what Nick is like and what this company is about I refer you to all the Wired articles. Pretty much spot on. Executives. Stay away from this mess of a company until Nick is removed.

Thank you for your comments. We read them all and take them seriously. We’re sorry you did not have a good interview experience with Revolut. We always seek to hire professionally, to allow candidates to demonstrate their experience and abilities as fully as possible and to allow us to reflect carefully on candidate’s answers and on what they indicate they would bring to Revolut. We include a problem solving and a bar raiser interview as part of the hiring process in common with several businesses and we believe that these are valuable both to the company and the candidate. This is a very senior hire and you will understand therefore that we will include senior people in the interview rounds both to allow us to get to know you and vice versa. Unfortunately this can mean that the process can take longer as we need to get time in several people’s diaries, some of whom are very stretched. We take talent recruitment extremely seriously and while we don’t want to prolong candidate uncertainty we think it’s important for both sides to get this right. We are surprised to learn of your experience and would kindly ask that you email hr.uk@revolut.com so that we can look into this further.
