I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Rubyroid Labs (São Paulo, São Paulo) in Aug 2025
Interview
I interviewed for a Ruby on Rails Developer position at Rubyroid Labs, and my experience was pretty negative.
The interviewer's questions felt very one-sided and came across more like an interrogation. This left me with a bad impression and the feeling that they were trying to set me up to fail, especially when they asked me to explain some unreadable code.
At one point, the interviewer said they were only interested in hiring a "good developer." This felt like a direct implication that I was not a good developer because I had a difficult time understanding their messy code while on a video call with my camera on and my screen shared.
They also showed a complete lack of regard for privacy. Sharing my screen and recording the call were prerequisites for the interview, which I didn't consent to. After the interview and receiving a rejection, I sent them an email asking for the recording to be deleted but was ignored.
Based on this experience, I cannot recommend them as a place to work. They are clearly a toxic workplace.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The interview featured basic technical questions, such as "What is an array?". My answers, based on my practical knowledge, seemed to conflict with the interviewer's pre-scripted expectations.
