      UI & UX Designer Interview

      1 May 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Silk + Snow

      Interview

One phone call interview and they already throw a design test you need to finish within 24 hours. The recruiter told me that only IF the hiring managers likes the work that you'll have a chance to speak with them in the next round. They get you to do a design test of their current webpage they want to revamp in the future on figma with both desktop and mobile prototypes made. Test was unpaid. It felt like giving them hours of labour and work for free. Terrible experience.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Silk + Snow in Nov 2025

      Interview

After a single phone screen, I was immediately asked to complete a design test with a 3 days deadline since it was sent over on friday. The recruiter stated the task would take 45 minutes, but in reality it required 3–4 full days of work. The assignment involved redesigning one of their existing webpages in Figma, including both desktop and mobile prototypes, along with detailed interaction thinking. The test was unpaid. I was told that only if the hiring managers liked the test would I be allowed to speak with them in the next round. Despite the unrealistic scope, I completed the assignment and also provided documentation explaining the rationale behind my design decisions. I was then invited to another interview with two team members. The conversation went well, and when I asked for feedback, I was told my technical and design skills were strong and that there were no concerns. However, the very next day, I received a generic rejection email saying they were moving forward with another candidate. I followed up requesting specific feedback, but never received a response. Overall, the process felt misleading and disrespectful of candidates’ time. I would strongly recommend being cautious about investing significant unpaid effort into large design assignments for this organization. The lack of transparency and follow-up feedback was disappointing and unprofessional.
