      Marketing Interview

      17 Oct 2009
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Southwest Airlines in Nov 2008

      Interview

I applied online and waited about a month before hearing back. I then had a phone interview. It was very straight forward. Most of the questions were behavioral. A few weeks later, I received a call inviting me to fly to Texas to interview for the position. The interview was conducted by a panel.

      Interview

Three interviewers, good and friendly atmosphere. I applied online and got a phone interview for 20 mins and a couple of days later I got a call in for a face-to-face interview. Everything was good except I waited for a really long time to hear back from them after the interview.

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Southwest Airlines (Dallas, TX) in Dec 2015

      Interview

The first two rounds were phone interviews. The 3rd round was an in-person interview. SWA's HR is great! They really do treat their employees well, even ones they are just interviewing. Even though I didn't get an offer, it was an overall good experience because they gave me feedback on why I was not chosen and what I need to improve on. (Most companies just give a rejection email, so I really appreciated the feedback.) You need to have the right skills in order for you to be chosen. Review the impact/results of your academic projects or experiences so that you can describe it well. (I had a hard time recalling the details of certain projects I did months before that I listed on my resume that the interview panel asked me to describe.) I really love the company culture, and I hope you do well! Be yourself; the group does a great job of putting you at-ease.

      Interview

I applied for several marketing positions in August of 2015 for consideration in the spring term. The internship recruitment process for me consisted of three parts after applying: essay, phone interview, and an in-person interview in Dallas. About a month following the internships closing online, I received an email requesting I complete a "Why Southwest" essay. Following the essay, I was called and offered a phone interview. The phone interview was relatively informal and started out with an overview of the position (make sure to save a copy of the job description-- once the position is offline you cannot access it). At the end of the phone interview I was told they would be interested in flying me out for an in-person interview. Nearly a month following the phone interview I was called and asked if I could come in next week for an in person interview. The Southwest People Department has some of the nicest staff you'll ever meet when you arrive in person. The receptionist perfectly embodied "Southern hospitality" and really helped make me feel at home. I was fingerprinted and filled out a few forms. I then interviewed in person for two positions (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). The interview panel was just my recruiter and prospective supervisor. They started by describing the position more and then proceeded to ask questions identical to the phone interview. This really through me off since I wasn't expecting to have so many of the same questions come up and felt myself trying not to repeat my responses from the phone screen. Please understand it is being intentionally done so that your prospective supervisor can also hear your answers firsthand. At the end of the interview I was asked if I had any questions and then was thanked for my time and was told I would be called with an update. After a month, I was called and thanked for my time by my recruiter. Unfortunately, I was not offered a position. The recruiter offered a detailed explanation on why I was not being moved forward and also valuable interview tips. I am very disappointed as Southwest was indeed my dream internship opportunity and I invested around 40-hours in industry and company research. However, I am still very grateful for the opportunity to interview in person as Southwest's guests and even more so for the compassion the recruiter had to actually provide feedback. Yet one more reason why I LUV Southwest and still very much would like to see myself within the organization at some point in my career.
