I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Spyder Technologies in Oct 2023
Interview
Initial call with recruiter, then quick chat with ceo, talk with senior engineer, then interview with engineering team. The initial interview was okay, but unfortunately the position was advertised as remote, the recruiter re enforced that during the call, but a few days later they emailed me asking if I was okay being in person. I continued the process because I was just looking to get my foot in the door somewhere. The next step was a talk with the ceo where he talked about the company and his own background. Third round was with a lead engineer, which, to be fair, I completely bombed. It wasn’t a test in practical skill but mostly about your memorization about programming practices and technologies. My major problem was the “4th” round, where I was supposed to talk to a team of developers and do some live coding. It was very clear from my last interview that I was not qualified, but they scheduled me for an interview anyway. I had taken time off of work to meet the scheduled time, but without warning only a few hours before the meeting, the time was pushed back an hour on the meeting link, which I only realized after checking my calendar, and then it was completely cancelled a few minutes later. The ceo then calls me, and leaves a voice mail saying someone else was hired. It was overall pretty poor experience but it isn’t entirely the fault of the company. My only recommendations are don’t promise another interview unless you plan on doing it, and if you want the role to be hybrid, advertise it as such, and don’t try to play into the sunken cost fallacy.
