      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      22 Apr 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Syrup (NY) in Apr 2024

      Interview

5-6 hours worth of interviews. I spoke with a recruiter, a hiring manager, a tech lead, 2x product owners, and VP Engineering. It was an extremely time consuming process. A week later, I got an email to say I've not been successful. No feedback was given. I asked if I could have some feedback and was ghosted. That felt rude. I spoke with another engineer who went through the same ordeal. I would avoid applying to work with syrup.tech.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Honestly they asked every question imaginable. Because there were so many stages, no stone was left unturned. Expect questions about culture, aptitude, conflict resolution, conflicting priorities, technical approaches, liaison with product and the business... Etc.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Syrup (NY)

      Interview

They informed me ahead of time that they would cancel the process if the feedback was negative, which is fair enough. I prefer it that way myself. It gives you more signal on what to improve on if you know the process stopped after a particular round. So they scheduled a technical screen at 4PM on one day, and another at 8:15AM the next day. I woke up early for this 8:15AM interview and saw an email timestamped for 12:37AM that the interview was canceled, with zero apology. I really don't understand why the company couldn't have sent something right after the 4PM screen concluded. Honestly, I feel like I dodged a bullet. I expect some level of chaos and disorganization at startups, but this is one of the most disrespectful experiences I've had as a candidate for a long time. I probably should've canceled the process myself when I saw they scheduled a technical screen for 8:15AM.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      - how would you describe yourself - one of those coding questions that's supposed to more closely resemble a real life situation than a DSA/leetcode
