      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Tesla (Los Angeles, CA) in Sept 2017

      Interview

Really easy and laid back interview. Got a call and did a quick thirty minute phone interview. Everything went smooth, set up a date to meet and interview with the store manager. Very laid back interview and really upfront about job expectation. In person interview went well and they told me I would hear back from them. Later that day got an email requesting a background check. After that went through I got a voicemail and email with an offer.

      Interview

I'll preface this by saying that the phone interview was great although it felt a bit rushed (or efficient?). She went through everything quite thoroughly and quickly. She didn't ask too many questions but did go through all the benefits of working at Tesla. I thought the phone interview was great until I went to the oral interview. Got to the interview 10 minutes before the interview began as stated in the e-mail. Waited about 20-30 minutes for the manager to be ready to see me. During the interview, the questions didn't seem to go into my strengths and weaknesses but were more generic. Rather than making any type of comment, the interviewing manager, He was quite mundane. While I was asking questions at the end of the interview, his responses were very generic and it sometimes felt like I was talking to a wall. He would often respond with a condescending tone and it wouldn't have been an issue if he didn't make it so obvious. After seeing the recent 1 star reviews on Yelp, I can tell that this location is lacking big time in customer service. Having ran an online business for years and having helped build customer rapport at a family owned business, this is really a shame for such a prestigious company such as Tesla. I've interviewed for two other companies a few days ago and they would at least make a comment about how interesting it was that I can fabricate parts out of fiberglass and plexiglass. If using a condescending tone is Tesla's way of retaining customers, I can already see this location closing down soon if management keeps up their condescending attitudes. If you can't even listen to your customers, how can you expect to build rapport? With two other job offers on the table currently, I wouldn't accept this position if it was offered to me. I really do wish Tesla employees the best at this location but they need to first improve the staff. Knowing about Elon's story from the Paypal days to creating Tesla and SpaceX, it's sad to see Tesla hiring poor staff. Nikola Tesla has always been the father of AC electricity although American history books appear to be white washed.

Phone Screening by HR, then Face to Face interview. They ask you about customer service skills, and being open to doing different types of work. Looking for a jack of all trades.
