They showed some code (plain javascript) and asked me to give feedback on it.

Coming from a startup that used mainly plain JS it looked normal to me. However they were looking for you to critique it. Not the accuracy of the code itself but the housekeeping parts of it. "Why not use typescript?" & "This could be made more readable" etc.
