      Senior Marketing Communications Manager Interview

      4 May 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trulia in Mar 2012

      Interview

I was contacted about this job from my LinkedIn profile by Trulia's internal recruiter. I had an initial 30 min phone screen with the recruiter who then scheduled a phone interview with the hiring manager. The recruiter was great. She had great energy and well pitched the company to me. This generated real interest and excitement. I had an initial phone screen interview with the hiring manager where we basically talked through my resume. She was very personable during this call and asked rather general questions about my experiences around PR, events, brand awareness, and marketing collateral. Our phone call prompted an invitation to come into the San Fran office to interview 1:1 with her. Prior to my 1:1, I received a large amount of paperwork to fill out to bring with me. They required that you write out a physical application and you must submit to a background check (which strangely included a credit check in addition to the normal background record/ education check) I arrived at my interview - the building was rather old - but the office seemed modern and nice. My 1:1 interview with the hiring manager basically was a re-hash of going through my resume as in the phone screen. I brought a large portfolio of samples and my laptop to show online materials and past strategy plans that I created. These were mostly looked over quickly. The interview was scheduled for 45 min and ran to an hour and a half. At the end of the interview, the manager talked of a hesitation she had. I probed to understand what her concern was and what she was expecting to hear from my experience. She really didn't have a concrete answer to give to a few of the solid questions I posed. She walked me out talking of next steps and "several rounds of interviews" a successful candidate goes through. I never heard back. Not even a "thanks, but not a fit". No communication. I found out that I did not get the job when I saw the job re-posted 3 weeks later.
