I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Underknown (Toronto, ON) in May 2024
Interview
2 interviewers were present during the interview. They briefly introduced themselves and then asked me various questions about my experience with video editing, animation audio editing and if I'm interested science and similar things. Furthermore they wanted me to tell them about my personal life, hobbies, interests and such. At the end they offered me to do a test project where I had to edit footage that they provided to emulate a video of theirs but with my own creative input. I had a deadline of about a week from the point of receiving the footage and project briefing. I submitted the video and only received a very short rejection e-mail. Since I was quite confident in my abilities and the video I've sent them, I asked them to please provide a reason for why I was rejected. They never replied to my e-mail. Pretty disappointing considering that it took multiple days to edit the video for them. I would not reapply at this company. Fortunately, I was hired by a much bigger production studio, so the rejection was a blessing in disguise.

They wanted to understand my technical capabilities as well as I ensure I was a good fit in terms of energy and motivation.
Writing a test script as part of the interview process was a great way to get a feel for the job. The video call portion comes after you prove yourself with the test script.
