      Java Full Stack Developer Interview

      22 Jan 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Reading, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ValStream (Reading, England) in Jan 2025

      Interview

I recently went through a recruitment process for a "Java Full Stack Lead (100% Hands-On)" position at a SaaS AI firm. While the role itself seemed promising, my experience with the recruitment process was disappointing and inconsistent, and I wanted to share some insights for future candidates. The opportunity was presented by external recuirter name "GS Technical Solutions" with attractive terms, including a good salary, bonuses, benefits, and a clear process initially outlined as follows: 1.An online technical assessment 2.An interview to assess cultural fit 3.A technical interview with the team 4.A final, informal meeting with the CTO However, there were several issues throughout the process that caused confusion Changing onsite requirements The initial onsite requirement was stated as 2 days per week, but this was later changed to 3 days without prior clarification. This was unexpected, though manageable. Feedback inconsistencies After completing the technical assessment, I had an interview that seemed to go well, with positive feedback, but I was later told that my confidence was an issue, which didn't align with my experience in the interview. Contradictory interview feedback During the technical interview, my solution was well received by the interviewers. However, the feedback I later received described my solution as "old school," which was surprising given their positive comments during the interview. Changes to interview stages The interview stages seemed to change throughout the process. Initially, the final stage was described as an informal meeting with the CTO, but it was later redefined as a more formal technical and cultural assessment. Additionally, I was asked to provide references from previous employers before completing the interview process, which felt unusual. Role put on hold After a final interview stage was postponed due to scheduling conflicts, I was eventually informed that the role had been put on hold due to changing company priorities. Overall, the recruitment process lacked consistency and professionalism. Candidates please be aware before investing your time on this company.
