I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Venner Shipley (Cambridge, England) in Feb 2022
Interview
Two rounds. First on zoom, involved a written exercise, questions about the task and then some typical motivational/technical questions.
Second round was in person and involved a chemistry test followed by a discussion about it.
Never heard back after the final round.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Define conformation, diastereoisomer and one other chemistry term.
What is the difference between:
imply and infer
continuous and continual
turgid and turbid
some nomenclature questions.
what are three essential features of a post-it note.
Explaining whether a number of molecules fall into the description of a patent.
The process comprised of: An initial written task A preliminary interview A final interview Completion of two psychometric tests The interviews were enjoyable and asked questions relating to motivation, competency based questions and technical questions related to describing an invention.
Interview was relatively standard, friendly people first just a discussion about previous work and so on. Then a bit more of a technical exercise. First meeting was on teams, did not make it through but I was not given a reason or feedback other than looking for someone with more experience
