How do you design an interface for a 1000 floors elevator 8 AnswersFirstly I am assuming that there won’t be any budget problem. Ok there are two options and we have to test which one is the user preferred yes I mean user preferred, with real user testing. a)It has to be touch screen (sleek user interface with LCD screen). The interface can be like calculator (not exactly like calculator just the key part) were user can punch the key in and the output will be seen on LCD touch screen. b)Second option > the idea inspiration comes from Apple, yes iPhone were you slide and select the fore (just like how we set date or time in iPhone) Yes of course both the interface has to be tested, when I say tested; tested with real users. Note: There has to be some big/or small LCD displaying on each floor (not sure about each floor) to display were the lift is going to stop. Both inside and outside the lift. Putting LCD outside the lift in a proper location will be easy but not inside. It has to be placed in L shape were the door open. on top of the door ( \ like this) so each one can see the LCD no matter where they are standing or tall or short one ;) To see more interview question please visit my blog. https://nadimkhan.wordpress.com/2012/08/24/ux-user-experience-interview-questions/ Use a dial-pad rather than an abundant amount of buttons. Show more responses I think the best way to make 1000 floors elevator is to have manual and automatic controls. For manual control nowadays we use its best as user perspective or to make range selector like we use in android mobile for number selection like for selecting calendar we just use that navigation interface for elevator. If some new member arrive so he/she will easily navigate elevator. And for automatic process I think the fastest and best way is to use face recognition system similar to Window Hello. Before entering to lift the camera above the elevator will scan the face of persons that he/she is the owner, employee or someone else related to the plot or floor. That way restricted floor will be secure and no one can access except the owner / employee / worker (or others new person for limited period). One or more comments have been removed. |
Graphic Designer at Mary's Meals was asked...
I was surprised to be asked what my opinion was of the salary even though it was advertised on the vacancy. 3 AnswersI was not intending to discuss the salary at the interview but when asked I told the truth that it was significantly below my current salary. The interviewers then mentioned that it may be possible to go up the grade slightly if I was successful. I said this would be good but I understood that charities would not be able to pay large salaries. I did not press on this matter at all. The interview seemed to go very well but I was later emailed to say I was unsuccessful. When asked for feedback I was told that they were 'shocked' that all I was interested in was the salary. This was a ridiculous comment as it was the interviewers who brought up the whole issue, I was very angry that despite what I felt was a good interview and all the work and time I'd put in to my assignment and interview answers this is all that they seemed to focus on. 3 months later I saw they were recruiting again for the same role so I guess they couldn't get the first person to stay. I feel that I probably had a lucky escape from these people. Apologies, voted down on your experience accidentally. I agree with what you have said. Sorry, I pressed the vote button by mistake! |
Industrial Designer at Molex was asked...
How would you drive innovation forward? 3 AnswersSeek mandate and support from C-suite level to explore unfamiliar and seemingly unrelated paths for researching and developing new product possibilities. Instill a mentality of "what if?". Get 3D early in the process using rapid prototyping. Identify experienced and trustworthy (maintain confidentiality) end users and bring them into the 3D physical design process early and encourage them to feel part of the creative process. Innovation must meet the basic needs of the improvement and development of production so the work must be distributed to the team that is able to understand the renewable needs according to the appropriate specialization Innovation must meet the basic needs of the improvement and development of production so the work must be distributed to the team that is able to understand the renewable needs according to the appropriate specialization |
Senior Game Designer at Gram Games was asked...
Was asked to take a couple of hours and provide a concept that's a "twist on Clash of Clans". Was then asked to take another hour to refine the design. 3 AnswersDesigned a concept where PvP would take place in person on a real map. Paraphrasing here, but was basically told "nobody would want to go outside to play PvP" (Pokemon Go and Ingress players are nobody apparently) and "I wouldn't play this instead of CoC" (I wouldn't play my 4 pages of sketches over CoC either to be fair) by way of critique. The new design was met with "this sounds promising, but not the easiest game to make". In addition to a production-ready market-beating guaranteed top grossing sensation, this needed to be the utmost breeze to develop, you see. Absolutely hysterical... how are these guys still in business? They were almost closing the studio when they got lucky and got a successful game. They made some money and now they just think they are great and have the best culture in the world. What they do now is make fast prototypes and launch it on the stores just to see if they stick, and if they do then they make a better version of them. I'm pretty sure that they will close the new studio in the near future if they don't change their mentality and put their feet on the ground. |

How does the current structure look like? 2 AnswersUsually the key stakeholders are Product owners, user researchers, technical lead and data scientist when needed. For more complex problems I also involve business analysts, customer support and sales. In these sorts of interviews you really need to drill down and understand what the interviewer is looking for. A good way to simulate a real interview experience is to do a mock with one of the OakNorth Product Designer experts on Prepfully, rated super strongly on TrustPilot... prepfully.com/practice-interviews |

How do you prioritise tasks if you haven't got enough time to do them? 2 AnswersI would Prioritise tasks if i haven't got enough time by completing the most important task first whilst quickly setting brief reminders in the form of written down notes with instructions in order to complete the other tasks when time is available to me. - Structuring my work load accordingly to the deadline dates - Working on the most important task, but also considering to plan which would require more time and attention depending on the nature of the task |
