How We Got Started
Richard D. Fairbank is founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Capital One® Financial Corporation. Mr. Fairbank founded Capital One in 1988 based on his belief that the power of information, technology, testing and great people could be combined to bring highly customized financial products directly to consumers. Eight years later, we launched here in the UK. This was our first overseas venture and, in 1997, we were ready to open our £multi-million operations centre in Nottingham, creating 1,200 jobs in the process.
Today, we’re a top 10 credit card issuer both here and in the US. We also have a presence in Canada, India and the Philippines, with 40,000 employees worldwide. And with your help, we’ll continue to innovate to make our customers’ lives better.

They look after you, you have room to grow, you are given the tools and resources you need, the people are highly skilled and positive, the business is ambitious, ethical and well managed, its an exciting time to be in financial technology.
It's huge so you need to connect with many people to get stuff done and it can take time.
Advice to Management
Onboarding could be better.
I applied in-person. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Capital One (Nottingham, England) in December 2017.
It was brilliant. Two preliminary phone calls, an initial informal meeting then an intense half day interview with four stages: presentation about me, job fit interview, behavioural interview, creative task. At every stage the Capital One HR team were helpful and very accommodating (e.g. called me when I asked - even early in the morning, arranged for some interviews to take place outside of work hours). Overall a very positive experience, although it was tough but I would expect that for the position I was going for and it made me think how amazing the rest of the team who had also gone through the process must be - and now I'm here they are!
