Founded in 1984 by George Materna, who remains a valued member of the board today, Gattaca began life under the name ‘Matchmaker Personnel’. After early success in the market, our focus shifted towards engineering recruitment, with ‘Matchtech Engineering Ltd’ being born, before the two brands were merged to develop the ‘Matchtech Group’ in 2002. Since then, the group has continued to grow.
Here are some key milestones from our journey:
2006 - Matchtech Group Plc became listed on AIM, a sub-market of the London Stock Exchange. We also launched the professional services and training recruitment specialists Barclay Meade and Alderwood.
2013 - Awarded the ‘most respected agency’ title by our competitors. The same year, we acquired Oracle recruitment specialist Provanis.
2014 - Celebrated our 30th anniversary.
2015 - Matchtech Group Plc acquired Networkers International increasing our global capabilities, whilst retaining our localised approach.
2016 - Following the integration of Networkers into the business, we rebranded from Matchtech Group to Gattaca.
2017 - Acquired a 70% stake in Resourcing Solutions Ltd, an engineering recruiter with a specialist-focus on the rail market – a business which complements the services offered by Matchtech.

It is a theme that typically scores lower in many staff engagement surveys, but what’s really interesting about recognition is it doesn’t need to cost a small fortune; we all have the power to recognise the superstars in this business!
I have been working at Gattaca full-time (More than 5 years)
This business has a fantastic culture. If you work hard, apply yourself and stay focussed, you will be justly rewarded. Not only financially, but there are plenty of other rewards and incentives that go on around the business to reward people for their hard work, dedication and results. These include quarterly business nights out, social events organised with your teams and weekly excellence awards including restaurant vouchers, beers and bottles of wine. You get the benefits of working for a large organisation, whilst retaining a family feel. A culture and atmosphere I, and many others, love.
As always there is a lot going on, and internal projects are often not prioritised the way you would like. However, this is something that does not affect Ops but can be frustrating.
Advice to Management
Keep listening to the staff as you have done in previous years through surveys etc. as this is the voice of the people.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Gattaca.
2 interviews - 1 with HR and 1 with the team leaders. Questions were competency based but they also looked for a good team fit. As long as you are a competitive, outgoing/extrovert character, you will be hired with little or no qualifications.
